J Dilla feat Phatt Kat (Midik Tech-Hop Remix)

| So friend and local producer BrandoBrownBlue and I have started to do weekly/monthly challenges for one another. The premise is one will choose an artist to remix, and you have about a week to finish the track. Rules are pretty loose at the moment since we’re just getting started, but for this particular one, it was all styles, anything goes, just do a unique remix you’re happy with with said artist chosen.
CHALLENGE #1: J Dilla (any track, any style) First challenge of this series was J Dilla. At first I thought it was going to be easy, but as I got into it I realized it was a bit more difficult. As you probably know, J Dilla used mostly chopped samples from a lot of songs to build a single track, so to create something unique from an already complexly layered track took some real thinking. I ended up choosing track #13 off the album “Welcome to Detroit”, a song entitled J Dilla feat Phatt Kat. The track went several directions before I decided on an avenue, but its something that I ended being pretty happy with overall. The bassline is a sliced up piece of audio from the track, drums are sampled, and the rest is well pretty straight forward. I hope you enjoy it.
